Francis Baptiste is an Indigenous songwriter balancing single fatherhood with life as a middle-aged musician.
In 2022, he released his debut album Sneqsilx (Family)—a deeply personal project sung in his native language, Nsyilxcən [nah-silk-sen], the endangered language of the Syilx [see-ilks] people. Through this 10-song collection, Baptiste reconnected with his roots and heritage during a challenging time.
Since then, he’s performed at the Talking Stick Festival, Vancouver Jazz Fest, Shipyards Festival, and more. His music has aired on CBC Radio, SiriusXM, and college stations across Canada and received praise from Exclaim!, Vancouver Sun, and other outlets.
His sophomore LP, set for release in Summer 2024, continues to spotlight Nsyilxcən while exploring powerful themes of identity, addiction, and cultural survival.
