Travelling to Penticton

Penticton (pen-TIK-tən) is centrally located in the Southern Interior of the province of British Columbia and is the hub of the South Okanagan. Conveniently located along the Highway 97 corridor, Penticton is easily accessed by the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) to the north and the scenic Crowsnest Highway (Highway 3) to the south. Penticton is also serviced by two airports, locally by Penticton Regional Airport (YYF) and further north by Kelowna International Airport (YLW).


By Car

Penticton has been one of the top road trip destinations of choice in BC, for generations of visitors! Penticton is centrally located along Highway 97, which is one of the longest north-south highways in North America. It runs from California to Alaska right through the center of the Province of BC. The Highway 97 corridor is the main connection for the South Okanagan to the rest of the Okanagan Valley, Kamloops, and Northern BC. Penticton has convenient access to the Trans-Canada Highway, Crowsnest Highway and other major BC highways.

By Air

If you are arriving by air, you will most likely be flying into the Penticton Regional Airport (CYYF), conveniently located at the south end of Penticton and only a 10 minute drive from downtown Penticton.

Direct flights from Vancouver:

Pacific Coastal Airlines offers non-stop service from Vancouver YVR South Terminal to the Penticton Regional Airport. The service operates 7 days a week (as of February 10, 2024), between Vancouver and Penticton using turboprop Beech 1900D aircraft. They added 4 additional morning flights for the 2024 winter season, which run from January 4, 2024 to April 26, 2024, on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Starting February 10, 2024, they will introduce a new Saturday service, with flight options available every day of the week between Vancouver and Penticton. Their spring schedule which starts April 28, 2024 will continue to offer two daily flights (a morning and an afternoon option) every day of the week. Direct flights from Calgary & Edmonton:

Westjet offers a direct flights to Calgary & Edmonton from the Penticton Regional Airport using their Bombardier Q400 NextGen Aircraft via their WestJet Encore service. Book your flight to Penticton now at westjet.com.

 

Air Charter & Air Taxi:

BP Aviation offers Airport Transfer service to and from CYYF Penticton & CYLW Kelowna airports.

Several carriers also fly into the Kelowna International Airport which is approximately 1.5 hours’ drive from Penticton and features air service between other major destinations.

Penticton’s natural landscape and alternative transportation infrastructure, makes the city very accessible to explore by foot, pedal or paddle! Once you arrive into the city and check-in at your accommodation, you can leave your vehicle’s keys behind and enjoy a fuel free vacation. Exploring Penticton outside of a vehicle allows you slow down and see more and enjoy the freedom to discover the gems that are typically enjoyed by locals all year long!


Taxi, Ride-Share & Shuttle

Sometimes we still need to use a vehicle to get around Penticton. Getting from the airport to your hotel, going on a winery, attending an event or exploring some trails further out of the city is easy with the range of taxi and shuttle services available in Penticton, as well as a newly available ride-sharing program, Uride. Taxi, shuttle and ride sharing services can accommodate almost any special request.


Public Transportation

Penticton’s Transit System has a modern fleet of low-floor transit buses, which are wheelchair and scooter accessible, serving Penticton’s residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas.

The Okanagan Similkameen Transit System provides regular service between Naramata and Penticton (Route 10). They also provide service from Penticton down to Osoyoos (Route 40) and up to Kelowna (Route 70).

Ebus is an Alberta based company that runs two, reservation-only round-trips a day, seven days a week on each of the three routes. The buses between Kamloops and Vancouver travel over the Coquihalla and Highway 1, with stops in Abbotsford and Merritt. The Vancouver-Kelowna route also travels over the Coquihalla and Highway 1, as well as Highway 97C, with stops in Chilliwack and Merritt. The service between Kelowna and Kamloops is on Highway 97C, with a stop in Vernon.
