Dream Team Barn Raiser

The old Naramata Home Theatre is about to become the Village Theatre and hold an audience for the first time in over 100 years. Mynaramata just ran a great piece on the site and its history here. It can be hard to imagine that this place was once considered among the most important places for theatre development in Canada. And here we are, bringing it back to life.

DREAM is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream told by the mechanicals, the workers and tradespeople Shakespeare used as comic relief. Here they take on new meaning, being precisely the folks needed to refurbish this old structure. Life imitates art imitating life, and here we are wearing the shoes of our characters. DREAM runs July 1 through 5 at the Village Theatre, then July 8 through 12 at Tempest in Penticton.

If you want to see the Village Theatre before it’s finished, we’re opening the doors on Sunday, June 14, from 12 to 4 in the afternoon. Come meet the cast and crew and see how we’ll transform this century-old structure. If you want to get involved there will be volunteer opportunities too. We’d love to see you there!
