About the class:
Do you struggle to create accurate portraits? Does something always seem to be off when you try? In this workshop we will practice classic portrait proportions to help you plan and problem-solve with confidence next time you paint or draw a face.

Amy J. Dyck is a contemporary multimedia figurative artist and writer based near Vancouver, British Columbia. While studying design in her early twenties, she experienced a sudden physical collapse that led to years of debilitating, unexplained illness and the use of a wheelchair. Art-making became a vital tool for coping, understanding, and storytelling. Her lived experience deepened her fascination with the human figure as a vessel of emotion, memory, and struggle. Combining anatomical study, classical drawing and painting, and playful experimentation, Dyck creates narrative-driven work rooted in embodiment. Her work is exhibited internationally, held in private collections, and has earned multiple awards. In 2024, she received a Canada Council for the Arts grant and continues to share her story through exhibitions, talks, and writing.
