Blue Rodeo’s iconic founding keyboardist delivers an unforgettable night of piano, stories and music.

Bob Wiseman was the founding keyboardist in Blue Rodeo, the one whose piano runs off the rails on the band’s first four records. He left in 1992 to do something harder to file, and three decades on he is still doing it: a dozen solo records, film scores, a book, and a live show that no two rooms ever get the same way.

What he brings to a stage is a piano, a pile of songs, and a talker’s instinct for the space between them. The stories arrive sideways. A deadpan aside has the room laughing a beat before something about loss lands. Some nights he scores his own Super 8 films live, a different reading each time. He has said he follows intuition rather than a set list, and the pleasure of watching him is hearing him decide.

The catalogue is deep and strange. Giulietta Masina at the Oscars Crying (Apple / Spotify) was his last full album. Since 2025 he has been releasing the next one a single at a time. Tentatively titled Too Many Wings for a Car, recently recorded tracks include “After The Holiday Tavern” (Apple / Spotify) and “Me and Jimi” (Apple / Spotify), an ode to Ellen McIlwaine. Along the way, he’s produced Ron Sexsmith, wrote the theme for CBC’s Someone Knows Something with Mary Margaret O’Hara, and published a book, Music Lessons.

None of which quite prepares you for the room. One piano, no safety net, and an audience close enough to hear him change his mind.
