There is nothing quite like a Saturday morning in Penticton during the summer. The sun is already warm, the smell of fresh baking fills the air, and Main Street completely transforms into a vibrant, open-air walking district. It is easily one of the community’s favorite weekly traditions. If you are visiting for the first time, here is exactly what to expect so you can navigate the markets like a seasoned local.
☕ Fueling Your Market Morning

The best way to start your morning is by securing a great cup of coffee to fuel your stroll. You can stop by downtown favorites like plant-based Stillfood Bistro, traditional European-style bakery Petrasek Bakery, or grab a brew and some artisanal treats at Accent Chocolates. For a great sit-down option just a couple of blocks from the main market stretch, Wayne & Freda is another fantastic choice. Best of all, if you want to head straight into the action, there is also a local coffee truck often parked right inside the market layout to keep you caffeinated while you browse.
To make your arrival smooth, aim to get downtown between 8:30am and 9:30am if you want to beat the peak crowds and lock down the freshest finds. Because of the road closures, it is best to park a block or two away – the lots and street spaces along Ellis Street, Martin Street, and Lakeshore Drive are all great options.
If you prefer to skip parking entirely, riding your wheels down is the ultimate local move. The Penticton Farmers’ Market features a secure free bike valet parking setup where you can safely check in your bicycle, scooter, or skateboard while you shop, leaving you completely hands-free to explore.
Two Incredible Markets in One!
As you begin wandering down Main Street, you will quickly notice that the tents stretch out for blocks. What many visitors don’t realize is that this massive event is actually two completely separate markets running side-by-side, joining forces to create one giant street festival.
Penticton Farmers’ Market

At the north end of the street, specifically the 100 block of Main, you will find yourself in the middle of the authentic Penticton Farmers’ Market. Running from 8:30am-1pm, every Saturday from mid-April all the way through to the end of October, this section celebrates everything local. After October, the market continues but shifts indoors to Cherry Lane Mall, on select Saturdays from 9:30am-3pm in November and December.
While it is heavily rooted in regional agriculture, it features an incredible mix of creators; you can find everything from farm-fresh seasonal peaches, cherries, and other fruits and veggies, and artisanal sourdough to unique paintings, hand-sewn items, and other crafted items such as jewelery, soaps and woodwork. As you browse the stalls, keep an eye out for the official “BC Association of Farmers’ Markets” vendor signs on the tents, which guarantee you are supporting a genuine, independent maker or small-scale farmer from the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys.
Downtown Penticton Community Market

As you keep walking to the 200 and 300 blocks and towards Front Street and Backstreet Boulevard, the energy seamlessly shifts into the Penticton Downtown Community Market. This portion of the market runs from 8:30am-1:30pm, every Saturday and kicks off on the May long weekend until the second week of September, bringing a bustling bazaar to the street.
This is your ultimate destination for independent artisans, crafters, and unique local talent. Regular market-goers and visitors alike are delighted with the hundreds of vendors who feature handmade goods, including clothing, food and jewelery, collectibles, antiques, and furniture, as well as the weekly food vendors, live music and entertainment that combine to create a fabulous warm vibe.

While you are exploring the stalls, it is also the perfect excuse to pop into our fantastic brick-and-mortar downtown shops lining the streets. Take some time to browse the shelves at The Book Shop, find classic summer styles at The Bumwrap, or hunt for gorgeous interior design pieces at Arcadia Modern Home and Tangent. You can stock up on quick essentials and snacks at Smoke 2 Snack, pick up sustainable goods at Impactful Zero Waste Refillery & Pantry, or discover premium regional bottles at The Vault Liquor Merchants. If you’re planning an outdoor adventure, stop by Eskala Mountain Sports, or wrap up your day checking out the beautiful pieces at Guerard’s Fine Furniture.

Right at the busy intersection of Main Street and Westminster Avenue, make sure to stop by the Penticton Visitor Centre & Gift Shop booth. It is the perfect central hub to ask local experts your questions, grab regional maps and guides, or pick up a Penticton souvenir, t-shirt or gift to take home.

By mid-morning, the enticing scents drawing you toward Backstreet Boulevard will likely catch your attention. This is the official food zone of the downtown community market, where you can find a fantastic lineup of independent trucks serving up everything from quick snacks to authentic global street eats. You can grab a bite from local favorites like Maku, Thai on the Fly, H&L Dumpling House, Queen City Eats, Tube Steak Boogie, or Choripan A Taste of Argentina. Just a few steps past the bustling food trucks on Backstreet Boulevard, you can also treat yourself to a delicious sweet or savory creation from Creperie Ooolala, making it incredibly easy to curate your own perfect sidewalk lunch.
Mid-Week & Evening Market Vibes
If your weekend is already packed, or you simply haven’t had your fill of our local culture, the region keeps the market energy going all week long with some fantastic evening and mid-week options.
Penticton Night Market

On Thursday evenings, you can experience a completely different kind of twilight energy at the Penticton Night Market. Running from June 4 through September 17, from 5pm-9pm, this curated outdoor evening market takes over beautiful Gyro Park near Okanagan Lake. It features a relaxed, family-friendly lakeside atmosphere complete with food trucks, local retail makers, live music, and stunning Okanagan sunsets.
Naramata Community Market

If you are up for a short, scenic drive, the Naramata Community Market takes place on Wednesdays from 4pm-7pm, from June through September. Located just 20 minutes from downtown Penticton, this charming market is set right on the water under the shade of massive trees in Manitou Park, the perfect spot to gather some fresh Naramata produce and picnic supplies while watching the sun drop over the lake.
Summerland Markets

Just a quick 20 minute trip north of downtown Penticton along Highway 97, Summerland doubles down on the market fun with two distinct events of their own. On Tuesday mornings from 9am-2pm, from May through to end of September the Summerland District Market takes over Memorial Park for a quieter, more relaxed weekday shopping experience focused on local crafters and specialty items, fashion , jewelery and art. Then on Sunday mornings from 9am-1pm, from June to September, the Summerland Rotary Sunday Market takes over Main Street, wrapping up the weekend with a beautiful, community-driven gathering packed with fresh fruit, artisan treats, and live entertainment.
🛍️Ready to Shop Local?
Whenever you decide to head out, just remember to bring along a couple of sturdy, reusable tote bags to carry your treasures. While almost all of our independent vendors accept tap and card payments these days, keeping a little bit of cash on hand makes grabbing a quick pastry or a basket of fresh berries extra seamless.
